Ferragudo – an Algarve dream

Ferragudo – an Algarve dream

Ferragudo is a hidden gem in the Algarve, which remains popular as a day trip destination but still maintains its tranquil charm throughout the year due to lack of big hotels there. The white washed and colourful trimmed houses on narrow streets, bursting with bougainvillea are postcard perfect. Don’t miss this fishing village if you’re visiting Algarve- and read on for recommendations of what to see and where to eat. Here’s what not to miss in Ferragudo:

Wander the old streets full of colourful houses and cherry blossoms, head to Rua Dr Luiz Antonio de Santos for this epic view

Flower Street

Enjoy an iced coffee and people watch in the town square – Port Arade does great ones.

Stroll along the beach and see Castelo de São João do Arade castle between Praia da Angrinha and Praia Grande – rent kayaks on Praia Grande if you fancy and cool off with a cocktails from Club Nau and lunch from Kalu. Note: you can walk in front of the castle at low tide only.

Enjoy some live music and good food in the evening at Club Nau on the beach. The sushi and robata skewers are amazing, and the burger is the best in town.

Go on a boat trip to Silves or to visit the caves- catch it from the quays near Sueste or buy tickets at Wildwatch or Ferragudo Emotions.

Catch the sunset from the beach before heading to the town square for dinner, here’s some options:

Port Arade: a bit of everything (my fav is the BBQ salmon).

Novo Mondo: great steak and the monkfish kebab is delicious.

Salga or O Barril: tapas, burgers, fish- best quality.

Fusion: Thai food and sushi (and €5 aperols!)

Indigo: the best Indian I’ve ever had, the Indigo or Mango Chilli Chicken are my favs.

Cafe Benjamin: your go-to for cake!

Doce: the pistachio choc chip ice cream is the best I’ve ever had.

Beira Mar: a great brunch spot (only til midday)

Brunch in Rio: nice for a more brunchy lunch or breakfast and the iced coffees are amazing.

Head to Tres Macacos Ferragudo for some live music and a late bar buzz from April-October (Weds-Sun).

For a continued adventure or day trip from Ferragudo, get the taxi ferry to Praia da Rocha (10 mins) across the river and head to No Solo Agua beach club (loud music, Bali beds, good food, cocktails by the pool and beach) – great for a day out for a special occasion.

Another boujee treat is Edds Beach nearby (a short drive or uber away)- more expensive but michelljn-style food, Bali beds and good vibes, would recommend for sunset too.
